I’m still settling back to reality from my 7 days Greek Island break to Santorini, and still adjusting to the weather we have here in London. I know it autumn/winter and it’s meant to be cold and wet but a bit of occasional sunshine won’t hurt!
7 days away was just what the doctor ordered (but you know I did ask for more days but he declined) but never mind it was more than enough to relax. A party of 6 people turned to a party of 2 (which actually made things a lot easier in terms of decision-making), so we arrived at the lovely Hotel apartment called Moonlight Apartments, a bed and breakfast hotel that has a great hospitality and customer service. The hotel is located 10-15mins away from the airport and 15-20mins walk to Fira Town which is where you have all the restaurants, Cable cars, tourist attractions and street foods so it was a perfect location for us. We arrive at Santorini in the early afternoon which was great as we had time to go into town to explore what the island has to offer…the first thing that caught my eyes was food! (As you all know already I was looking forward particularly to the food and of course the incredible architectures and breathtaking view) I tried some street food of Souvlaki Gyros which one of the popular food to snack on when you are on the move, we visited the Food Bar where they serve Souvlaki Gyros which is basically pitta bread is filled with chicken or pork, lettuce, garlic sauce, onions, and chips so it’s basically an all in one kebab; it was so tasty that I made sure I had one everyday!
We strolled along the little corners of Fira and drank at Cafe Clssico which is a great spot to chill for afternoon/evening tea and to watch the sunset as it’s over looks the sea and the view of the building of Fira town cascading down the cliff. The island is really small and can be walked in one day depending on how fit and how much walking the you like to do, we walked around Fira everyday discovering different corners that linked to each other. On Day 4 we took a day trip to Nea Kameni Volcano to see the Volcano craters and swam in the hot springs, I didn’t get to swim in the hot spring as you have to swim through a deep path to get to the shallow hot spring, and as I’m a good swimmer I opted to stay onboard of the boat overlook the others enjoying the water; but I did get to paddle in the clear water at the stone beach which was amazing! And trust me we were getting our dose of workout as had to climb 250 flight of stairs to get up to Oia and walk up and down a unlevelled hilly road to get to Fira town from our hotel so we needed all the energy we were getting from the food! Santorini is definitely a couple’s island as it’s has a romantic atmosphere, no wonder people go there for their honeymoon and wedding photos.
